UC HUMANITIES CENTERS
As the humanities institute serving the entire University of California system, UCHRI partners with humanities centers of the UC campuses. Like UCHRI, many of these centers were founded under the UC’s 1987 Humanities Initiative, established by former UC President David P. Gardner.
UC campus humanities centers operate in different campus cultures and have distinctive local features. All, however, catalyze conversations across disciplinary lines--presenting events, conferences and visiting speakers, and providing support to innovative faculty and graduate student research. The campus centers have also supplemented the individual approach that has traditionally characterized work in humanistic disciplines by nurturing collaborative research efforts.
