EXTRAMURAL EXPLORATIONS 2012-13

The UC Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) invites proposals for partnership projects between UC Humanities Initiatives and Community Organizations during the 2012-13 academic year (July 1 to June 30).

Who Can Apply: UC Ladder Rank Faculty
Level of Award: Up to $20,000
Funding Source: UCHRI
Deadline: 5:00 pm PST on November 15, 2011. FastApps opens on October 3, 2011.

Program Overview

UCHRI is inviting proposals to promote public programming involving vigorous partnerships between any field or organization with significant humanities focus or content and off-campus community organizations with considerable record of public service commitments.

Funding would be available for programming that involves community outreach partnerships with community organizations, museums, or NGOs to bring to off-campus audiences high quality humanities programming such as exhibitions and innovative multi-media events that could include, but should not be limited to, panel discussions or lectures. A very limited number of grants of up to $20,000 each will be awarded to worthy projects. Grants will be awarded with the expectation that UCHRI money will be matched by additional funding from outside granting agencies and/or from organizers' home campuses in a ratio of one to two. Organizers will secure from some other source at least one additional dollar for every two dollars of UCHRI funds. (For example, UCHRI expects that a $5,000 grant will be matched by at least $2,500.)

Decisions are based upon the quality of the project and partnerships proposed, the innovativeness of the proposed project, the qualifications of the applicant(s) and participants, and the track record and likelihood in reaching a significant public audience.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the respective campus representative on the UCHRI Advisory Committee for advice regarding criteria of assessment.

Awards will be announced no later than March 2012.
